For the 20th consecutive year, the PE department at PCMS is proud to participate in the American Heart Challenge, an initiative sponsored by the American Heart Association (AHA). This annual event raises awareness about the lifestyle choices that impact heart health and empowers our school community to take action toward living healthier lives.
Why It Matters:
Heart disease and stroke are leading health concerns, but small changes—like daily exercise, balanced nutrition, stress management, and proper sleep—can make a big difference. The PCMS Physical Education curriculum aligns with the AHA’s mission by promoting movement, fitness, and lifelong wellness habits. Throughout PE classes, students engage in activities that encourage at least 60 minutes of movement daily, including games, skill-building exercises, and mindful practices like stretching and reflective breathing.
Event Week: February 10–14
During this week, all PE classes will feature heart health-related games and educational activities. Additionally, we invite the entire school to participate in these special events:
Friday, February 14 – PCMS Red Out! Wear red to show support for those affected by heart disease.
Fundraising Activities:
AHA Bracelets – $1 each
Paper Hearts – 2 for $5
Jump Ropes – $2 each
(Sold at lunch throughout the week.)
Online Donations – Available all month at: www2.heart.org/goto/PembrokeCommunityMiddleSchool
How to Get Involved:
Students, families, and staff can register online to access valuable resources, including heart-healthy recipes, heart disease signs and symptoms, and Finn’s Challenge, which highlights the impact of heart disease on children.
Our Goal: $200
Every dollar raised supports the American Heart Association’s vital work—funding research, lifesaving medical advancements, community education, and surgeries for children with congenital heart conditions.
For Staff Donations:
If you’d like to contribute via check, please make it payable to the American Heart Association and give it to Ms. Stoddard by February 14. She will ensure all donations are sent to the AHA.
Thank you for supporting this important cause! Together, we can make a difference in the fight against heart disease.
